Just minutes from Hotel Tybee, the Tybee Post Theater is located in historic Fort Screven. The theater was originally built in 1930 as a movie house for army soldiers living on the base. The facility closed in the early 1960s and fell into disrepair. At the turn of this century, the Tybee Island Historical Society rescued it from demolition, and formed a non-profit group of caring citizens to raise the money to restore this historic landmark. Their diligent work allowed for the theater to reopen its doors in September of 2015 as Tybee's only performing arts and movie venue. Since then, visitors and locals alike flock to this beautifully restored theater to enjoy live music, new and classic movies, plays, and comedy performances.
