Savannah Music Festival presents Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Robert Spano, Conductor Avi Avital, Mandolin BULLER The Parallactic Transits HIGDON Concerto, Mandolin RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade, Opus 35 Commissioned for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Spano, The Parallactic Transits invites audiences to look to the stars. I hope to paint an image both of the stars slowly moving in our field of vision and of we ourselves, moving metadimensionally around the heavens, said the composer. Returning this season is mandolin player, Avi Avital. The first mandolin soloist to be nominated for a classical Grammy Award, Avital returns plays a brand-new mandolin concerto from composer Jennifer Higdon. Looking to the East, Maestro Spano conducts Rimsky-Korsakovs classic Scheherazade, the story of the wife of the sultan who spins epic tales with cliffhanger endings for 1,001 nights.
